About Chandigarh

Chandigarh is the 1st planned modern city of India designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. Chandigarh and the area surrounding it were constituted as a union territory on 1st November, 1966. It serves as the joint capital of both, Punjab and Haryana states. It is bounded on the north and west by Punjab and east and south by Haryana. Total area of the union territory is 114Sq.Km.


Sukhna lake

Created by damming the Sukhna Chloe that comes from Shivalik hills, Sukhna Lake has become one of the most visited places in Chandigarh. The water body is spread across 3 acres, and presents a spellbinding view. The Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited has also established water sport activities in the lake, and an eating joint where you can get mouthwatering dishes. Take a stroll down the lake side, let your kids make merry at the swings or enjoy the merriment of a boat ride, Sukhna has ample to offer for everybody.


Rock Garden

Rock Garden was created by Nek Chand, a road inspector in the Engineering Department of Chandigarh Capital Project and a visionary man who took the recycling of materials to a new level. Rock Garden has become tantamount with the City beautiful and presents awe-inspiring artifacts that will leave you spell bound. The entire garden has been created by the industrial debris and domestic discards collected by Mr. Chand from in and around the city. The flowing streams within the architecture presents a perfect blend of natural splendor and human ingenuity.


Zakir Rose Garden

The pretty Zakir Rose Garden, named after India’s illustrious former President Dr. Zakir Hussain, is Asia’s largest rose garden. Spread over 27 acres, it is dotted with more than 17,000 rose bushes embracing 1,600 species and dramatic colour fountains. The fragrant garden is the venue of the annual Festival of Gardens or Rose Festival, and offers a truly soothing experience to the senses.


Timber Trail

Located an altitude of 5000 feet atop Shivalik Mountains, Timber Trail is the perfect place for an escapade. The picturesque sceneries, the serene ambiance and mystical natural beauty will take you towards a heavenly experience, far away from the hustle and bustle of routine life. The orchestral pair of whistling wind through the pine trees and flowing Stream of Kaushalya River snaking through the mountain range creates an unearthly atmosphere. And, the Cable Car that runs atop these mountains serves as the perfect icing on the cake for an unforgettable holiday.


Kasauli

Kasauli, a pocket of paradise in the Shivaliks, is an enjoyable and accessible getaway from Chandigarh. Developed by the British in the 19th century, the town retains the charm of a colonial cantonment with its quiet cobbled sun-dappled paths lined with cottages, orchards and tall old trees. With a cool fresh mountain breeze tinged with the scent of pines, soothing bird song and quietude, Kasuali is an ideal destination for a rejuvenating holiday. At night the plains below morph into a mesmeric sea of twinkling lights.


Shopping Plaza Sector 17

Also known as a Shopper's Heaven, Sector 17 shopping plaza is one of the most happening places in Chandigarh. Home to some of the major domestic and international brands, the plaza can be seen as the fashion district of the region. A centrally located cinema hall, eating joints with a galore of local delicacies and a range of fashion brands, Sector 17 Shopping Plaza is a must visit destination for every guest coming to the City Beautiful. Elante Mall

Elante Mall can be looked upon as the City Beautiful's leap towards globalization with more than two hundred fashion brands, the biggest multiplex in the region and a gigantic food court all under one roof. Within a small time Elante Mall has established its authority as the number one shopping mall in The City Beautiful. The establishment comes from the inventory of L&T Realty, an arm of Larsen & Toubro, as a remarkable institution which encompasses entertainment, stay and business industries.


Chattbir Zoo

Sprawling across a landscape of more than 200 acres, Chattbir Zoo paints a magnificent picture of the underlying ecological concord. The zoo is located at a scanty distance of just 17 km from Chandigarh. The Zoo is home to more than 85 species from the animal kingdom, most of which have been born in the zoo. The Royal Bengal Tiger is one of the major attractions of the zoo. The zoo remains open for 6 days a week, with Monday being the day off.


Rajiv Gandhi Technology Park

Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park has brought IT revolution in the City Beautiful bringing IT colossuses like Infosys, Reliance Communications, Tech Mahindra, Quantum Solutions, IBM Daksh and Oceaneering International to Tricity. The entire project encircles more than 6, 50,000 Sq.ft. of workspace provided esp. for ITES/IT/BPO companies and 123 acres of land for development of habitat centers. The project also encompasses one of the most popular multiplexes in the region in the form of DT City Center.
